Idiopathic Feline Lower Urinary Tract Disease (IFLUTD) is a universal
term for conditions represented by blood in the urine, urinating in
inappropriate locations, difficult or painful urination, abnormal or
frequent passage of urine.
IFLUTD is also called Feline Idiopathic Cystitis (FIC), Feline Urologic
Syndrome (FUS), or Interstitial Cystitis. These diseases occur due to
the bladder and/or urethra inflammation without any physical cause and
are idiopathic.
Urinary bladder and/or upper portion of urethra can be infected by
bacteria which results in inflammation and other urinary-related
symptoms.
Commonly, senior cats develop the condition more frequently than adult cats and kittens.
